Former CIA employee and Kennedy School professor Richard Haass have made firm commitments to appear on the panel. Bob Woodward . of the WASHINGOIJ POST also has been invited. Marvin Y,alb, Director of the Kennedy School's Joan Shorenstein Barone Center for the Press, Politics, and Public Policy, will moderate. You could expect an audience of?-approximately 850-students, scholars, faculty and members of the Boston and Harvard community. The program is taped and your permission is asked to broadcast this on the National Public Radio network. Although the public .may .not view it this-way, has been out of the intelligence community for over a decade an is no onger knowledgeable in the field. We envision that this discussion will concentrate on broad topics within the scope of freedom of information (i.e. Under what conditions may it be appropriate to deny the public access to information? What kind of information, if any, should be routinely denied? Does public access to information add or detract from the efficient operation of our government? What are the long-term consequences of government secrecy?). We have invited four speakers to participate in this discussion.
