President of the Crusade Against Crime, Suzanne Hart, has invited you to
be the sole recipient of the 1988 Salees Smith Seddon Award sponsored by the
Crusade at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis. The presentation of the
award, now scheduled for March 5, can be rescheduled for a Sunday evening in
June if you wish to accept. You will be out of the country on March 5.
The award is named for the late Salees Smith Seddon who in 1970 founded
the Women's Crusade Against Crime (later Crusade Against Crime) with former
t4ayor Alfonso J. Cervantes. Last year's recipients were US Attorney
Thomas E. Dittmeier, Mayor Vincent C. Schoemehl Jr., former St. Louis County
Juvenile Court Judge Noah Weinstein and Dr. James A. Monteleone, Director of
Pediatric Endocrinology at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.
You will be out of the country the first two weeks of March and already
have two speaking commitments for the 22nd and 23rd of the month and your
schedule in June is equally busy. Tickets for the dinner are priced at $100
each which indicates to me that this is a fund raiser for the group, .and you
will be a drawing card. I recommend that you decline this invitation and have
attached a letter of regret for your signature.

Sunday evening was a bit of a hard-
ship for you because it would mean
you would have to travel back on
Monday morning and would lose the
