As President of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics
Association (AFCEA), I realize the important benefits of this
Association in promoting the goals you and I share for the United
States and our Free World allies. I feel so strongly about the
professional value of AFCEA that I am writing to encourage your
support of a special program in conjunction with the annual AFCEA
Convention. t
On 14-16 June 1988, at the Washington Convention Center, AFCEA
will host its 42nd International Convention and Exposition. The
Convention features panel presentations on such current
professional topics as technology transfer, space, non-
developmental items (NDI) and acquisition. The latter panel will
be particularly important,, with panel members Senator Jeff
Bingaman, New Mexico; Gerry Ebker, IBM; Norm Augustine, Martin
Marietta; and Dr. Jay Sculley, Assistant Secretary of the Army
for Research, Development and Acquisition.
In addition, over 500 companies will be displaying the latest in
capabilities in Command, Control, Communications, Electronics,
Intelligence and Information Systems. There will be exhibits
featuring the latest technology in C3I and information systems,
including many non-developmental .items. The AFCEA Convention
provides. an ideal -forum for the professional development of your
personnel. It is a unique opportunity for you and your people to
experience state-of-the-art developments, as well as to exchange,
ideas with other professionals in your field of interest.
Another. thing being offered by the AFCEA Career Planning Center
at the Convention is a Career Transition Seminar. This Seminar
will help retiring and other departing military personnel prepare
for jobs in the corporate world. Seven corporate executives will
speak on .such topics as resume preparation, how to find a job,
job-search services, and corporate perceptions of the retiring
military. The Career Transition Seminar will be held Wednesday
15 June 1988, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; registration is free.
