RE: Speaking Invitation
Georgetown University Lecture Fund
Gaston Hall, Georgetown University
Convenient Date
16 August 1988
Chairman of the Georgetown University Lecture Fund, Tim King, has invited
you to address this lecture series as part of Georgetown's 200th anniversary
at some convenient date. The suggested format is 20 minutes of remarks on a
topic of your choice. The audience would include approximately 500-600
students and faculty members. You could expect media coverage.
The Lecture Fund is a student activity that is sanctioned by the
University. Although Georgetown University is a conservative campus, our
Officer in Residence Noel Firth reported that some student demonstrations
could be expected. In recent years Rev. Jesse Jackson, Pearl Bailey, and
William F. Buckley have spoken at the lecture series.
Since you spoke at Georgetown University last spring, although not to a
student audience, I do not believe that it is necessary to appear on the
campus again. If you agree, attached is a letter of regret for your
signature.

Dear Mr. King:
18 AUG 1988
I appreciate your invitation to address the Georgetown University Lecture
Fund on a convenient date. Unfortunately, I am not able to make a commitment
at this time, and therefore must decline. I certainly enjoyed speaking at
Georgetown University last spring. Please give my congratulations to the
students and faculty on Georgetown's 200th anniversary.
Best wishes.
Sincerely yours,
Id William H. Webster

The Georgetown University Lecture. Fund is the committee respon-
sible for bringing prominent speakers from various fields to
campus. In recent years our guests have included such figures as
Rev. Jesse Jackson, Kurt Vonnegut, Gary Larson, Pearl Bailey, and
William F. Buckley. As you can see from this list, the Lecture
Fund has a great deal of interest in sponsoring programs which
are diverse and feature dynamic and committed people.

a dynamic and committed individual--one whose views and opinions
would be of great interest to the Georgetown 'community. For that
reason, I would like to extend an invitation to you to speak at
Georgetown. It would be a great pleasure and honor to have you
here and we would certainly amend our schedule to fit yours.
In addition, the fall term marks
bicentennial celebration. Being
