OGI analysts briefed Treasury Department General Counsel
Kimmit on Libya's use of the international banking system to
support terrorism.
NESA completed a paper for the NSC, State, and DoD on
Moroccan King Hassan's upcoming visit to Washington. At the
request of NSC, NESA also prepared an assessment of Libyan
activities and objectives in Sudan.
NESA briefed Commerce Deputy Assistant Secretary for Near
East/Africa/South Asia on economic and technology transfer issues
in South Asia.
OEA briefed Adm. Ted Lewin, new commander of Subic Naval
Base, on economic, political, and military developments in the
Philippines.
OEA analysts discussed US-China relations with Brig. Gen.
Reynolds, the new military attache to Beijing.
D/BONA and several SOVA officers discussed the size of the
operational SS-20 force with Dr. Fred Ikle, Under Secretary of
Defense for Policy.
Several SOVA managers met with Stephen R. Sestanovich of the
NSC staff to discuss policy support needs.
OSWR briefed Ambassador Ric3~ard Kennedy on the Chernobyl
nuclear accident.
OSWR briefed Vince DeCain, Deputy Assistant Secretary of
Commerce, on the status of the Pakistan and India memoranda of
understanding, in preparation for his upcoming visits to those
countries. OSWR also briefed the new Commerce representative to
Bern on the Soviet technology acquisition program and technology
diversions in Central .Europe.
OSWR briefed Ma,j. Gen. George Krausz, Director of Combat
Developments, US Army Training and Doctrine Command, and Dr.
Marvin Pastel, Science Advisor to Commander TRADOC, on Soviet
ground forces weapons development over the last decade, and on

Soviet countermeasures to US precision guided munitions. OSWR
also briefed the US Marine Corps Director of Combat Developments,
Brig. Gen. Milligan, and his staff on Soviet responses to US
developmental top-attack antiarmor programs, and selected Soviet
armor upgrades.

Starting Monday, 30 June, OIR will provide coverage of the
Senate on Channel 6 of the cable grid system.
NESA briefed Gen. Lawrence, the National Defense University
President, on the security situation in Lebanon and its
implications for the United States.
A EURA analyst participated in a roundtable at the State
Department with visiting Yugoslav economists, who candidly
discussed their country's economic plight.
SOYA analysts met with Ed Hewett of the Brookings Institute
to discuss~SOVA's methodologies for calculating Soviet labor
productivity. Analysts also visited the Virginia Polytechnic
Institute to discuss possible approaches to measuring this
productivity.
Among visitors escorted by OIR's curator of the Historical
Intelligence Collection to the Donovan World War I exhibit were a
delegation from the National Archives; a delegation from Marine
Corps Headquarters, including Brig. Gen. Breth, Director,
Division of Intelligence, and Brig. Gen. Simmons, Director,
History and Museums; the grandson and granddaughter of William J.
Donovan; and three members of the Washington office of Donovan's
law firm.
Briefings on the Hill
There were 15 briefings on the Hill this past week.
ALA briefed Senator Bradley on the economic and political
situation in Mexico.
ALA, along with DoD and State representatives, gave
testimony on developments in southern Africa before the SSCI.

Solari on the military situation in Cambodia.
OSWR and SOVA assisted the DDI in testifying before a Senate
Foreign Relations Committee hearing on the Chernobyl nuclear
