Dear Mr. Chairman:
In response to your letter of 6 May 1988 concerning prepublication review
of manuscripts by former Committee staffers, I welcome your expression of
interest and concern. As you know, the protection of intelligence furnished
to the oversight committees from disclosure in subsequent publications by
former employees concerns us deeply as well.
I want to assure you that we are prepared to fully support and assist the
Committee's efforts in this area. To this end, we plan to contact the
Committee staff shortly to offer our views and suggestions as to how the
prepublication review process can be carried out in the most effective and
expeditious manner possible.
