Between the U.S. and Japan ,n the, Peaceful Uses of
Nuclear Energy
Pursuant to tha decisions made at the Policy Review Group
Meeting chaired by Ambassador John D. Negroponte, January 6,
14813,' on the U?S.-Japan Nuclear Agreement, the following papers
should be prepared and submitted to the National Security Council
tafi by the dates indicated:
Draft interim letters replying to the Senate Foreign
Re4atiorts Committee and the House Foreign Affairs
Committite on their objections to the Agreement. The
Departmnnt of State will prepare and 'circulate a draft by
January 11, 1988.
- Draft flprmal final response to the Senate Foreign
Relations Committee and House Foreign. Affairs Committee on
their okpjections to the Agreement: State will prepare and
circulate a draft by January 20, 1989, which incorporates
the finings regarding the legal, environmental and
? transpc:Tt issues associated with the tasking below.
Draft ptper on the sea transport modalities-, as Well
possibility of military airlift. The Department of
Defense will prepare a draft and circulate by January IS.
ormulate a game plan for the preparation of the
Environmental Impact Statement required by the Murkowski
AmendmerA. The Department of Energy,- in ,consultation with
the Environmental Protection Agency, will prepare and
