Dear Judge Webster:
December 28, 1988
We are Co-Chairmen of the first annual Congressional
Scholarship Awards Dinner established by The Fund for
American Studies. This bi-partisan, non-political
event is an outgrowth of the Barry M. Goldwater
Scholarship Awards Program which began in 1975. The
Congressional Scholarship Awards Program provides
financial assistance for students to participate in the
Institute on Comparative Political and Economic Systems
and the Institute on Political Journalism at Georgetown
University. This year's dinner honors our colleague,
Dick Lugar.
The dinner will be held on March 7, 1989 at the J.W.
Marriott Hotel. A cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m. will
precede the 7:30 dinner and a brief program.
We would personally appreciate your acceptance of our
request to serve on the Honorary Dinner Committee. As
an Honorary Committee member, your name would be listed
in the dinner invitation and. program and we hope you
will attend the dinner as our guest. A. member of The
Fund's staff will call you in the near future to answer
any questions you may have and to seek your response.
We accepted the Chairmanship of this dinner because it
is an important event for a very worthwhile cause. We
realize the demands on your time but hope you will join
with us to make the dinner a great success.
We look forward to your favorable response.
Sincerely,
David Boren
U.S. Senator
Sincerely,
John McCain
U.S. Senator
