Outside Sampling
briefed BGen Drewfs, J-2 for the US Central Command, on
developments on the Horn of Africa and the threat to US military access in
Somalia. (Assistant NIO for Africa)
served as panelist and commentator for a Council on Foreign
Relations discussion group on Eastern Europe. The most interesting debate
centered on the proposition that "it is the task of US policy to help the USSR
manage the dissolution of the Soviet empire." (Assistant NIO for Europe)
Lawrence Gershwin will be briefing Rear Admiral Fox, Joint Chiefs of
Staff, and his entire START Division on Soviet strategic forces under a START
agreement and Soviet potential for breakout. (NIO for Strategic Programs)
