At the request of Senator DeConcini, the General Accounting
Office, Office of Special Investigations (OSI) is conducting an
investigation involving various allegations made by Lt. Col.
(Retired) James "Bo" Gritz, USA. Among the allegations, Gritz
claimed to have developed, evidence of narcotics trafficking by
certain U.S. government officials posted in Southeast Asia.
In conducting the investigation, OSI is contacting various
federal agencies to test the veracity of these allegations. It
is requested that an OSI investigative team meet with your agency
representative to discuss this matter. A contact for OSI is

It is requested that the CIA reply to the following questions
regarding the activities of Col. Gritz:
1. Did the CIA have any role in directing, financing,
coordinating, or otherwise endorsing any efforts by
Gritz to locate American prisoners of war who may
remain in custody in Southeast Asia?
2. Is the CIA aware of efforts by any other U.S.
Government agency, entity, or official to support Gritz
as described in question #1?
3. Did the CIA participate in Operation Lazarus or
Operation Grand Eagle with members of ISA?
4. Was the CIA aware of a relationship between Gritz and
ISA, NSC, or SOG representatives?
5. Was the CIA aware of Gritz meeting with Khun Sa in
Burma, and, if so, was this meeting sanctioned by any
U.S. Government agency?
6. What is the troop level of Khun Sas army, and what
military capabilities does his organization possess?
7. Does the CIA have any knowledge of investigations of
drug trafficking by the following individuals who
served the U.S. Government in various capacities in
Southeast Asia?

9. Does the CIA have knowledge that Stanford Technology,

the activity described in question #8?
