MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Congressional Affairs
THROUGH:
FROM:
DD/House Affairs
1. The GAO is examining the justification for the U.S.
military presence in South Korea. As part of their
investigation, the GAO asked to meet with CIA analysts to-
discuss the military situation on the peninsula and requested
seven related publications.
2. DI/OEA reviewed the request (attached) to determine
whether they could provide a briefing. D/OEA, has
asked that we decline this request. Given the current
analytical resource constraints, the Korean Branch could not
respons to this request. Further, he believes that the GAO
investigators would gather their best military assessments
from analysts at the Department of Defense.
3. As you know, the Agency provides only oral briefings
to the GAO, not documents.
4. With your permission, we will decline this briefing
