SUBJECT: Briefing Doug Olin on Narcotics Production and
Interdiction
1. On 5 April, Doug Olin of the Senate Budget Committee
also serving as Senator Chiles representative, was briefed by
of OGI on international narcotics 25X1
trafficking issues. The briefing was held in the Foreign
Visitors Lounge at Headquarters. was
present.
2. According to Mr. Olin, the briefing was being held
because Senator Chiles and other Senators were interested in
developing anti-narcotics legislation in this session. He said
that Senator Chiles wants a briefing on the same topic at a 25X1
3. I (briefed Olin on annual
narcotics production in Latin America and South and Southeast
Asia. They provided comparative estimates of the last two
years production. The main conclusion was that production was
increasing in the select countries despite some eradication
efforts.
