SUBJECT: Senate 'Foreign Relations Transcripts to
be Reviewed for Declassification
1. Attached are five executive transcripts which the
Senate Foreign Relations Committee (Claiborne Pell, Chairman),
wishes to print in the next volume of its Historical Series
(Unclassified). The transcripts, dated 7 January, 9 February,
29 March, 19 May, and .19 July of 1965, will be included in
Volume XVII of the Series.
2. Please note that the Department of State has reviewed
the transcripts of 7 January, 9 February, 29 March, and
19 May, and made the following recommendations;
January: State has no objection to the release,
subject to review by CIA;
9 February: State has no objection to the
release, subject to review by CIA;
29 March: State has bracketed (in green) material
on pages 649-650, 651, 706-709, and 710, which they feel
must remain classified SECRET under E.O. 12356 Section
1.3(a)(5) and 1.3 (b);
19 May: State has bracketed (in green) portions of
page 36 and 37, which they feel must remain classified
SECRET. They also recommend that CIA pay special
.attention to pages 28, 294, 44, 47 and 57, to ensure their
releasibility;
19 July: No indication that this has been
reviewed by State.
