Today's Meeting with SSCI Staffers
Sen. Glenn's Bill Requiring GAO Audits of Agency: SSCI was
and is opposed to this Bill. Committee's tactic was to have
Bill referred to SSCI where no action was taken and to
establish an SSCI audit team. Now I am hearing murmurs that
Sen. Glenn will introduce measure as an amendment to the
Cohen/Boren Bill or to some other Bill. (FYI: Charlie
Battaglia even went so far as to describe the Statuatory IG
Bill that his boss Senator Specter is pushing as an alternative
to the GAO Bill.) Our questions for the staffer are: have they
heard this? What plans do they have to counter Glenn? (I
understand they have a counter amendment.) What can we do?
Statutory IG: Anything new?
Monitoring Estimate: They may ask why we changed our
guideline on access to Vol. II. Leak of the draft influenced
our decision.
