(A/Nb/Europe) Larry Budge chaired a meeting of Intellioence Community and Armor Development Community representatives Martin Roeber, at the request of the Nicaragua Interagency Group, chaired an interagency meeting that produced a paper on Nicaraguan resistance force levels. 6,000 to 7,000 insurgents remain inside Nicaragua; 9,755 are outside. (NIO/Latin America) Outside Sampling attended a Hudson Institute conference on "The Future of the US Military Commitment to Europe." General Haig, in his keynote address, noted four threats to the alliance: uncertain American leadership, the US deficit, the Gorbachev phenomenon, and vulnerability to a Soviet first strike.
