attended the US-Yugoslavia Counterterrorism Talks held at
the Department of State. The senior Yugoslavian representative expressed
serious concern about US public statements underscoring Yugoslavia's lack of
commitment and cooperation in dealing with international terrorism.

Coordination is imminent on Somalia: Prospects for Stability and US
Interests.- The Somalian president is visiting Washington in mid-June.

Kadar on June 6 and will then disseminate a "sense of the Community" report
apprising policymakers of Community judgments on the dramatic leadership
succession, Hungary's outlook over the next several months, and the

Larry Budge chaired a meeting of Intellioence Community and Armor
Development Community representatives
Martin Roeber, at the request of the Nicaragua Interagency Group, chaired
an interagency meeting that produced a paper on Nicaraguan resistance force
levels. 6,000 to 7,000 insurgents remain inside Nicaragua; 9,755 are outside.

Outside Sampling
attended a Hudson Institute conference on "The Future of the
US Military Commitment to Europe." General Haig, in his keynote address, noted
four threats to the alliance: uncertain American leadership, the US deficit,
the Gorbachev phenomenon, and vulnerability to a Soviet first strike. He
called for a restructuring of NATO defenses, nuclear modernization, and US
support for a stronger "European Pillar." (A/Nb/Europe)
