WHILE SIMILAR IN'SIZE TO A T-72, IT HAS
SEVERAL DISTINGIJISHING CHARACTERISTICS.
(S/D) THE MOST DISTINGUISHINC`~ IDENTIFICATION FEATURES OF THIS
NEW SOVIET TANK ARE A PR~viINFNT RAISID REAR DECK, A GRADUAL
DOWNWARD SLOPE OF BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR FENDERS, AND A LARGE,
ROUND RELATIVELY FLAT TURR T ~tix~

(S/D) AN EQUIPMENT DISPLAY WAS IN THE TANK 25X1
TRAINING AREA, JUST OUTSIDE THE TANK REGIMENT HOUSID HERE. THE
DISPLAY INCLUDED THIS NEW SOVIET TANK, A T-?2 SERIES TANK, AND
A T-64 SERIES TANK. IN ANOTHER AREA OF THE DISPLAY WERE TWO
BMP, THREE T-72 TANKS, ONE T-64 TANK, AND TWO ARV.
(S/D) THE IDENTIFIABLE FEATURES OF THIS NEW SOVIET TANK APPEAR
TO BF, THE SAME AS THOSE OF THE M1981/2 TANK IDENTIFIED FROM A
PHOTOGRAPH IN THE RID STAR MAGAZINE DATED 10 SEPTEMBER 1981
(SEE INSET). THE DISPLAY OBSERVED MAY HAVE BEEN 25X1
PREPARED FOR A VISIT BY HIGH-LEVE I IALS. A HIP C
HELICOPTER WAS ON A HELIPAD NEARBY. WHAT APPEARED TO BE A
CARPET 'EXTENDED FROM THE HELICOPTER 'PO THE ROAD LEADING TO THE
DISPLAY. A SIMILAR VEHICLE DISPLAY WAS SE
