BANGALORE PROBABLE AE OSPArF FACILITY, INDIA
(S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: A NEW PROBABLE WIND TUNNEL FACILITY,
BANGALORE PROBABLE AEROSPACE R & D FACILITY, HAS BEEN
IDENTIFIED ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF BANGALORE. INDIA. 3 NM NORTH-
NORTHEAST OF BANGALORE AIRFIELD
(S/D) REMARKS: THE FACILITY, IN THE LATE STAGES OF
CONSTRUCTION, CONSISTS OF TWO SEPARATE WALL-SECURED AREAS.
THE IRREGULAR-SHAPED EASTERN AREA CONTAINS A TWO-BAY PROBABLE
WIND TUNNEL BUILDING, A PROBABLE CONTROL BUILDING, TWO VACUUM
SPHERES, TWO ADMINISTRATION/SECURITY BUILDINGS, FIVE SUPPORT
BUILDINGS, A WATER TOWER, AND A SMALL TRANSFORMER. THE
TRIANGULAR-SHAPED, WESTERN AREA CONTAINS A TWO-BAY PROBABLE
WIND TUNNEL BUILDING, A COMPRESSOR BUILDING, TWO POSSIBLE
VACUUM SPHERES WITH EXTERNAL RIBBING, TWO CYLINDRICAL
PROBABLE PRESSURE TANKS, AND THREE SUPPORT BUILDINGS. A
POSSIBLE WIND TUNNEL SEGMENT WAS ON THE GROUND BY THE DOUBLE-
BAY WIND TUNNEL BUILDING IN THE EASTERN AREA.
(S/D) CONSTRUCTION IN THE EASTERN AREA BEGAN IN DECEMBER
1979. THE MAJOR BUILDINGS WERE EXTERNALLY COMPLETE AND THE
SPHERES WERE NEARING COMPLETION IN FEBRUARY 1981.
CONSTRUCTION IN THE WESTERN AREA BEGAN IN OCTOBER 1980, WHEN
THE FOUNDATIONS FOR THE PROBABLE WIND TUNNEL BUILDING WERE IN
PLACE. THE WALLS AND THE SUPPORT BEAMS FOR THE WIND TUNNEL
BUILDING WERE BEING ERECTED IN FEBRUARY 1981.
(SNF/WNINTEL) BANGALORE IS INDIA'S MAJOR AEROSPACE R & D
CENTER. RECENT COLLATERAL REPORTS INDICATE THAT INDIA IS
INVOLVED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF RAMJET TECHNOLOGY AND MAY BE
