PROBABLE NATIONAL RESISTANCE MOVEMENT GUERRILLA CAMP
SEMACUE ZA , MOZAMBIQUE
1. (SWN) SIGNIFICANCE: A PROBABLE NATIONAL RESISTANCE
MOVEMENT (NRM) GUERRILLA CAMP WAS IDENTIFIED 39 NM
NORTHWEST OF BEIRA IN EASTERN SOFALA PROVINCE.
2. (SWN) REMARKS: SEMACUEZA PROBABLE NRM CAMP IS
INTERSPERSED IN A FORESTED AREA 2 NM NORTH-NORTHWEST OF
SEMACUEZA ON THE SOUTHERN BANK OF THE RIO MUSSAPASSUA NEAR
THE SOUTHEAST EDGE OF THE GORONGOSA NATIONAL PARK. THE
PROBABLE NRM CAMP CONSISTS OF AT LEAST SEVEN PROBABLE
TENTS/HUTS, AT LEAST 26 LINEAR TENT-LIKE STRUCTURES OF
VARIOUS LENGTHS, AND AT LEAST ONE POSSIBLE BUNKER.
ADDITIONAL FACILITIES INCLUDE TWO PROBABLE SMALL-ARMS
RANGES AND A PROBABLE PHYSICAL TRAINING AREA. GROUND
MARKINGS SUGGEST THE PRESENCE OF SOME DEFENSIVE POSITIONS
IN AND AROUND THE CAMP. THE TRAIL SYSTEM WITHIN THE CAMP
SUGGESTS THAT THE CAMP IS OCCUPIED AND ACTIVE. THE CAMP
WAS NOT PRESENT WHEN THE AREA WAS LAST SEEN IN JULY 1979.
