NEW ROCKET ENGINE TEST-RELATED FACILITY

1. (S/WN) SIGNIFICANCE: A NEW ROCKET ENGINE TEST-RELATED
FACILITY, FS UNDER CONSTRUCTION JUST EAST OF TEST STAND 1 AT
ZAGORSK ROCKET ENGINE TEST FACILITY KRASNOZAVODSK.

(S/WN) REMARKS: THE FACILITY, WHICH IS IN AN EARLY STAGE OF
CONSTRUCTTUR-,_7AS A UNIQUE CONFIGURATION. IT CONSISTS OF A
HEXAGON-SHAPED SUBTERRANEAN STRUCTURE, APPROXIMATELY 35 METERS
ACROSS, WITH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RADIATING CORRIDORS. TWO
EXTERNAL CORRIDORS, AND GROUND SCARRING FOR A THIRD, EXTEND
APPROXIMATELY 35 METERS FROM ALTERNATING SIDES OF THE HEXAGON
STRUCTURE, CREATING A SYMETRICAL "Y" CONFIGURATION. THE TWO
COMPLETED EXTERNAL CORRIDORS ARE BELOW GRADE AND TERMINATE AT
ABOVE GRADE PROBABLE ACCESS STRUCTURES. THREE INTERNAL
CORRIDORS RADIATE FROM THE CENTERPOINT OF THE STRUCTURE TO THE
THREE SIDES OF THE HEXAGON WHICH DO NOT HAVE EXTERNAL
CORRIDORS. TWO ADDITIONAL CORRIDORS/COMPARTMENTS ARE ALSO
WITHIN THE HEXAGON STRUCTURE. EXCAVATION FOR THE MAL STRUCTURE WAS PRESENT ZAGORSK ROCKET 25X1
ENGINE TEST FACILITY ONS BLE FOR DEVELOPMENTAL TESTING
OF ENGINES FOR SPACE AND ICBM SYSTEMS. TEST STAND 1, WHICH IS
THE LARGEST ROCKET ENGINE TEST STAND IN THE SOVIET UNION, IS
BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN USED FOR DEVELOPING THE BOOSTER ENGINES
FOR THE TT-05 (J-BIRD) SPACE LAUNCH VEHICLE.
