1. SIGNIFICANCE: EVIDENCE OF AN SS-X-24 LAUNCH FAILURE IS
OBSERVED. (SWN)
2. REMARKS: A MISSILE APPARENTLY WAS LAUNCHED FROM SILO 28A AND
.FAILED SHORTLY AFTER LAUNCH. THE AREA AROUND SILO 28A IS
DAMAGED, AND THE SILO HEADWORKS STRUCTURE APPEARS EXPOSED. THE
APRON PAVING SLABS ARE MISSING OR COVERED WITH DEBRIS, AND THE
SILO DOOR IS OPEN AND IS STILL ATTACHED TO THE HEADWORKS. IT
APPEARS THAT SOME DEBRIS FELL NEAR SILO 28B AND THAT SOME FELL
BETWEEN THE TWO SILOS. AT SILO 28B, THE SILO DOOR IS CLOSED,
AND AN AREA TO ONE SIDE OF THE SILO IS DAMAGED. SOME OF THE
PAVING SLABS NEAR THE SILO ARE IN DISARRAY. (SWN)
PRELAUNCH ACTIVITY WAS IN PROGRESS AT SILO
28A. AN SS-X-24 UPPER CANISTER TRANSPORTER WAS BACKED UP TO
THE OPEN SILO. LAUNCH SITE 28 WAS LAST OBSERVED INTACT ON
(SWN)
