3. Talked with Mr. A. Devitt Vanech, Chairman of the/Committee on Employee Loyalty,
and was informed that copies of the report by the Committee were not available. Wrote
memo to Assistant Executive Director recommending that steps be taken by the Director
to secure a copy through the White House.
L. Conferred with Mr. John Adams, Chief Clerk, Senate Armed Services Committee,
regarding the appearance of the Director before the Committee in connection with the
merger bill. An invitation will be sent to the Director requesting his appearance and
information regarding the manner in which he desires to appear. It was thought inform-
ally that the Director might place a 10 or 15 minute statement on the record, follow-
ing which the Committee would go into executive session, with no record kept of the
hearing. It was felt that the Committee would desire to ask detailed questions of
the Director on all phases of CIG. Mr. Adams also thought that the Director might
have a apCeeliminary talk with Senator Gurney, the Committee Chairman, relative to his
