1. Received call from me of Senator Hatch's office, (D.,N.M.),
requesting an appointment for formerly with the OSS in China.
2. Talked with Senator Gurney this morning. He stated that the Director's state-
ment was fine -- just what he wanted, that there were-no comments after its completion
and "no kickbacks."
3. Talked with Congressman Lynch (D.,N.Y.), and Miss Cherry, and explained that,
due to ceilings and budgetary problems, it would be impossible to hire STAT
4. Delivered to the House Committee on Expenditures 30 copies of the Director's
statement.

9. Spoke with Mr. Carl Hoffman, General Counsel, House Expenditures Committee,
who agreed to brief his father to shut off any questions which the Director found
embarrassing, particularly regarding personnel ceilings and budget. Agreement was
reached that the session would not have any Committee personnel other than Mr. Carl
Hoffman present, and that there would be no stenographic transcript.
10. Briefed the Director re his appearance tomorrow before the House Committee
on Executive Expenditures on H.R. 2319.
