Items for the Daily Log - 12 August 1952
1. Discussed with the DCI steps to be taken in connection
with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Hearings on the
Benton Resolution, S. 74. The Director plans to call Senator
Fulbright upon the latter's return in September to acquaint him
with problems of the covert activities in the field of his in-
vestigation. Will also call Senator Hickenlooper.
2. In connection with my memorandum to the Director of 12'
STATINTL August of the subject the Director wishes to take
no action at present but to have all necessary material avail-
able as to our knowledge of this case in case we get further
inquiries.
3. The DCI has instructed me to prepare legislation which
will establish a salary for the DCI at $20,00, the D/DCI at
.118.1000., and the three Deputy Directors at $16,000. I have in-
formed him that no congressional action can take place prior to
the meeting of the 83rd Congress but that we will draft the
necessary legislation for submission to the Bureau of the Budget
in the late fall.
