In connection with the Beria case, Mr. Flanagan informed me of the latest developments which are contained in my memorandum for the Director this date. 2. At the invitation of Mr. Walsh, Staff Director of the House Baltic Committee, I met with him and Mr. Abbott Washburn, of USIA, to discuss further the use of certain films by the Committee. I informed Mr. Walsh that we would be glad to allow to accompany him on his trip to Newfoundland in search of films on the Soviet take over. In addition, I advised on certain legal aspects regarding the use of these films, particularly in their subsequent commercial exploitation under USIA auspices. 3. Mr. Wisner informed Mr. Kirkpatrick and myself of a report that Congressman Pat Hillings (R. , Calif..) had made extremely derogatory remarks about CIA while on a recent visit to the Middle East indicating that its security was bad and that it was due for a house clean- ing. 4. Amb. Luce in Rome has requested through CIA channels information as to the itinerary of Chairman Chiperfield, of the House Foreign Affairs Committee,. upon his departure from Moscow. I am informed that the Chairman scheduled to leave Moscow on 8 October directly for Cherboilrg and return horreon the Queen Elizabeth. 25X1A 5. I have informed I __1 and through him i 25X1A 0 that they may respond to the request of their former associate on the staff of the House Committee on Government Operations for assistance in trying to locate certain information on which they had worked at the time they were staff members of the Committee. I stressed that they should keep their association as limited as possible and not to involve 25X1A CIA in any way.
