Approved For Releape 2002/06 TP91-00682R000090080-6 REME Journal Office of Legislative Counsel Monday - 31 August 1953 1. Mr. Brobeck, of the staff of the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy, called to state that the Committee had by-passed Casablanca and arrived at Sidi Solomi, Morocco. They had filed alternate flight plans, one through Cano and one through Monrovia. 2. I called Mr. Sprankle, Chief Clerk of the House Appropriations Committee, to see if there was any assistance I could give him prior to his departure on 3 September for Europe and the Middle East. He stated that they were going primarily to look into MSA and Agricultural matters, with some State and Military, but that he did not propose to look at any CIA matters unless they chance to be in an area where they were looking at the overall U. S. picture. He inquired whether I would be in Europe at all and if so whether our paths would cross. I told him that I did not contemplate presently being abroad. 3. I informed Mr. Sprankle that after discussions with the Bureau of the Budget CIA had determined that it might be necessary to expand its personnel ceiling by a figure somewhat less than 1, 000. 4. Mr. Schroeder, of the staff of the Senate Immigration Subcommittee, called to state that Senator Watkins and a new staff member, Mr. Robert R. Burton, were planning to be in Berlin on or about 10-11 October and wished Approved For Release 200
