1. Gen. Cabell,informed me that Cong. Scrivner had again
raised the question as to the authenticity of the photographs showing new
Soviet long-range bombers, and that Mr. Amory is now prepared to give
Mr. Scrivner our evaluation of these photographs. I called Mr. Scrivner
to inform him of this fact and he queried whether it might not be preferable
to give our evaluation to the full Armed Services Appropriations Subcom-
mittee rather than to him alone. I told Mr. Scrivner that we would rely
on his judgment on this matter, but that it would appear best if we talked to
him individually at first so that he could be apprised of the information, and
then determine whether it would be necessary for us to inform the full Com-
mittee or perhaps allow him to do it without us. The latter would appear
preferable.
Mr. Scrivner stated that he would like to see this information on
the afternoon of 31 March, and that he would phone me around lunch time
to let me know what time would be most convenient for him to see us.
