1. Senator Mansfield has just returned from a trip abroad,
during which he served as a delegate to the SEATO Conference
in the Philippines. In addition, the other countries visited were
Viet-Nam, Laos, Cambodia, France., Germany, Italy and Austria.
Senator Mansfield will be debriefed in the DCI's conference room
at 0900 on Saturday, 9 October. I have alerted OCI, ONE and
the Chiefs of FE~nd WE Divisions, DD/P.
2. Mr. James McTigue, Counsel to the Kersten Committee
on Communist Aggression, with Committee Consultant Jan Karski
serving as interpreter, spent several hours today with the Polish
defector Swiatlo preparing his testimony for his appearance before
the Committee. The session went very well.
