1, At the request of Gen, Betts I attended a meeting with him and
Messrs. Wunsch and Hoffman to discuss what steps might be taken in
connection with the surfacing of the through means other 25X1X
than the Congressional Committee. in orme Gen. Betts of the back-
ground of the Committee's refusal insofar as I knew it, but all other
matters are outside of my province,
2. I talked with Mr. Sourwine, of the staff of the Senate Internal
Security Subcommittee, regarding the reasons for the Committee's
declining to proceed with hearings on the (See Memo- 25X1X
randum for the Record this date),
3, I raised at the DD~A staff meeting the proposal of the Comptroller
that we consider putting out a weekly digest of Congressional matters of
interest to CIA. Such a digest would be of primary value to the adminis-
trative people represented at the DD~A staff meeting.. It was rather
unanimously agreed that such a digest would represent one more piece
of paper which would have to be read; that the current service pretty
well covered the needs of the administrative offices; but at Col. White's
suggestion it was agreed that the minutes of his periodic staff meeting
should contain my briefing of current Congressional matters of interest
at least in outline.
4. The DCI has informed Chairman Cole, of the Joint Congressional
Committee on Atomic Energy Committee, of the recent Soviet atomic
explosion,
