Approved For lease 2001/08/~9~ ~~-RDP91-006821~p0200110053-3 JOURNAL Office of Legislative Counsel Tuesday - 31 August 1954 1. In response to the letter of 26 August 1954 to the Director from Gen. Julius Klein serving as special consultant to the Senate Appropriations Committee, I have talked to General Klein in his office in New York. (See Memorandum for the Record this date. Mr. ;Wisner informs me that he has no knowledge of any conversations between the Director and General Klein, however, in view of the backer Cong. Hillings that there is a considerable possibility of serious trouble in Guatemala at about the time of his visit and that-such possibility might include shooting. The Congressman expressed thanks for this informa- tion and hopes that he would be able to get into Guatemala. If trouble arose while he was there, he is prepared to abide by any decisions of the State Department as to action. Cong. Hillings during his briefing here on 30 August, I have informed 3. as discussed with Mr. Wisner the recent develop- ments in connection with the proposed surfacing of and Mr. 'vVisner has approved these plans in princip e.
