1. In connection with the request for the appearance of representa-
tives of CIA. before the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy this morning in
support of H. R. 10203 (S. 3851), the Director felt that it would be advise-
able if a representative of CIA were present to render such assistance as
might be necessary. Mr. Houston and I, therefore, attended the Committee
meeting. Present were Chairman Cole, Senators Hickenlooper, Bricker
and Pastore, and Congressmen Durham, Van Zandt, Price, Jenkins and
Kilday. (See General Counsel's Memorandum for the Record this date).

is recommended that Legislative Counsel seek an appointment with Chair-
man Jenner for sometime after 9:00 a. m. Friday morning in view of the
Committee's original letter requesting this particular defector and the
DCI's conversation with Chairman Jenner regarding this man and agree-
ment to make him available.
