Office of Legislative Counsel
Friday - 6 August 1954
Congressman Leroy Johnson (R. , Cal.) visited the Agency
this morning. He was briefed on overall Agency organization by
Mr. Pforzheimer and Mr. Houston; Mr. Sheldon then answered
some general questions regarding overall Soviet strength. The
DCI came in and talked generally with Mr. Johnson for a few minutes.
Following this, Mr. Andrews, AD/OCD, conducted the Congressman
on a tour of OCD facilities, with which the Congressman was ex-
tremely impressed. The visit seemed to indicate that the Congress-
man would give us his staunch support. I mentioned our desire to
create a career service, and he stated he wanted to be sure that
we had appropriate legislation for this purpose.
