Approved For Reuse 200(,~3~2~1~-RDP91-00682R0~'t00120047-9 Journal Office of Legislative Counsel Monday - 1 August 1955 25X1A 1. Cong. Charles Deane of N. Car. lunched with the DCI toda Those present included the DDCI, DDI, DDS, IG, Legislative Counsel and Cong. Deane expressed great admiration for the Director and the wor we were doing. He stated that he had read the Hoover Commission report and had not been impressed by it. He did not feel that it had contributed anything to serve as a guide for CIA. Ultimately the true objective of the Congressman~s visit came to light when he discussed in strong words his support of the moral rearmament movement, and presented for the DCI's review a scrap book of clippings and pictures of an MRA group visitation to Asia. Subsequently, Mr. Deane showed a film prepared by Moral Rearmament in Africa and urged that we give it careful consideration. Those present for the showing were from NEA. and and two of his 25X1A associates from OCI. Cong. Deane had one final message, but as the DCI was unavailable he asked me to convey to the Director the information that a staff member in the Department of State had sent out to various embassies in the Secretary's name a rather Juke-warm message regarding the MRA visits. This, Mr. Deane felt, accounted in part for the unfavorable comments from Ambassador Ferguson in Manila. He suggested that the DCI might point this out to the Secretary of State. 2. Mr. Lyman Hamilton called for verbal concurrence in H. R. 7278, the Supplemental Appropriation Bill, 1956, as the desire to rush the bill to the White House precluded the usual written coordination. I have given him the verbalcancurrencefor CIA.. Approved For Release ~Q~ ?CIA-RDP91-006828000200120047-9
