Approved For Re4Wse 207/93/28: CjA-RDP91-00682RO,9200120154-0 Journal Office of Legislative Counsel Tuesday - 18 January 1955 1. Sixteen identical concurrent resolutions have been introduced in the House to establish a Joint Committee on Intelligence Matters. The leader- ship seems to have been taken by Cong. Zablocki (D. , Wis.) and Congress- woman Kelly (D. , N. Y.) who introduced similar resolutions last year. The Joint Committee is to be composed of 9 members each from the Senate and the House. The resolution refers to the Central Intelligence Agency "and related intelligence services". As the House requires individual bills to be introduced rather than co-sponsorship as in the Senate, the following are the bill numbers, the sponsors and their committee assignments: H. Con. Res. 28, Zablocki (D., Wis. ), Foreign Affairs; H. Con. Res. 29, Mrs. Kelly (D., N. Y.) Foreign Affairs; H. Con. Res. 30, Becker (R. , N. Y.) Public Works; H. Con. Res. 31, Mrs. Buchanan (D. , Pa.) Banking and Currency; H. Con. Res. 32, Carnahan (D. , Mo.) Foreign Affairs; H. Con. Res. 33, Davis (R. , Wis.) Appropriations; H. Con. Res. 34, Doyle (D. , Calif.) Armed Services and Un-American Activi- ties; H. Con. Res. 35, Gordon (D. , Ill.) Foreign Affairs; H. Con. Res. 36, Mrs. Kee (D. , W. Va.) Veterans' Affairs; H. Con. Res. 37, Lanham (D. , Ga.) Appropriations; H. Con. Res. 38, Norblad (R. , Ore.) Armed Services; H. Con. Res. 39, Reuss (D. , Wis.) Banking and Currency, and Government Operations; H. Con. Res. 40, Sheehan (R. , Ill.) Merchant Marine & Fisheries; H. Con. Res. 41, Smith (D., Miss.) Public Works; H. Con. Res. 42, Mrs. Sullivan (D. , Mo.) Merchant Marine & Fisheries; H. Con. Res. 43, Walter (R., Pa.) Chairman, HCUA and Judiciary. Approved For Release 2007/03/28 : CIA-RDP91-00682R000200120154-0 25X1 C Approved For Release'2007/03/28 : CIA-RDP91-00682R000O120154-0 3. Cong. Wainwright (R. , N. Y.) called the DCI's office to invite him to luncheon at the Capitol on behalf of himself and Cong. Frelinghuysen (R. , N. J.) on 19 or 20 January. The DCI did not accept, but made a tenta- tive appointment for them to come to his office on 26 January. 4. Gong. Hillings (R. , Calif.) has introduced H. R. 278, the Political Asylum Act of 1955. This will provide for the issuance of 1, 000 visas to escapees from behind the Iron Curtain who have special information of value for the United States and who agree to cooperate with the United States to defeat the international Communist conspiracy. This legislation is identical with H. R. 8000 which Mr. Hillings introduced last year, on which CIA gave him some drafting assistance. Approved For Release 2007/03/28] ?IA-RDP91-00682R000200120154-0
