Approved For ReleasGINW.: -RDP91-00682R000300150015-0 29 December 1948 The Honorable William Langer Chairman, Post Office and Civil Service Committee United States Senate Washington, D. C. Dear Senator Langer: Commencing in January 1948, the Central Intelligence Agency adopted as a policy the questioning of people who voluntarily left the employ of this Agency. For the first eleven months (through the month of November) six resignations were submitted by individuals who stated that their sole reason for resignation was dissatisfaction with government salaries. During the same period thirty-seven others left to return to positions in private industry and gave as one of the reasons for returning to private industry the insufficiency of government salaries. These people were all in the higher grades of the CAF and Professional categories. If the above information is released publicly.. I should appreciate it very much if the Central Intelligence Agency should be not named as such but be disguised as "a government agency" or "a government organization." We endeavor to keep all information regarding our personnel figures in a classified status. I trust that this information will be satisfactory, and, if I or any other member of the Central Intelligence Agency can be of further service, please do not hesitate to call upon us. With best personal regards. Sincerely, Signed & dispatched by hand of Mr. Pforzheimer 12/29/48 R. H.
