Homogeneous anion-exchange membranes were made
from the product bf condensing phenol and ethylene
diamine hydrochl6ride with formaldehyde. The amount
of water used in the reaction mixture affected the ex-
change Tate but ixit the capacity. The capacity and
tendency to sweU Increased with the proportion of
ethylene diamine, but the strength of the membrane
decreases.
