A straight polymer of acrylonitrile whose molecular
wedght was 78= was wet-spun by dissolving it in 7C%
nitric acid. When in an undried state. this fiber could
be dyed easily to an intenm color by direct dyes, and
the degree of orientation of this fiber could be deter-
mined from dichroism which appeared by the use of
Congo Red. When drawn by using a warm-water bath
