The silanoll groups of a silica preparation were de-
termined by Ignition and by reaction with LIAIH4
(244 meq. SIOH per IMI; silica). Nrt of these
groups reacted with organic reagents forming organic
derivatives of silica with SI-O-C bonds. Acetyl and

benzWI derivatives of silica were prepared which 1

Silica chlorides were prepared by treatment of silica

The behavior of metal free phthalocyanine-tetrasul-
fonste and some metal derivatives in aqueous solution
has been investigated. It was found that most of these
compounds dimerize in diluted aqueous solution. The
stabilities of these dimers have been determined by
OPMtrophotometric Measurements.
