Declassified and Approved For Release 2013/04/26: CIA-RDP91-00981 R000200270014-0 Directorate CEC/EC: DA/OL Initiative Name and FY: Computer Graphics Productivity - 1992 Date of Full Operating Capability: 1996 Cost Estimate: (Dollars in Thousands) 1992 1993 1994 1995 1996 Positions 1 1 1 1 0 Funds $566 $300 $300 $75 $50 Problem to be Addressed: The Agency-at-large is becoming visually literate. As a result, rapidly growing demands for -computer graphics support has outstripped current Printing and Photography Group (P&PG) resources and has jeopardized the Group's ability to meet these requirements in a timely fashion. The growth rate is such that by 1994 a 24-hour design operation, as opposed to P&PG's current 12-hour operation, will be required. Proposal: To meet the increased demands for computer graphics, both P&PG's equipment and Table of Organization must be enhanced. Justification for Proposal: To provide P&PG with the resources necessary to stay abreast of growing Agency requirements. Description of Funding Requirements: The estimated $1,291,000.00 required for this initiative is broken down: 1992 - $296,000 to physically merge the Computer Output Microfilm (COM) Section computer graphic recording equipment with the computer design stations currently located in the Design and Presentation Center (D&PC) and $270,000 to cover additional computer design equipment; and, 1993 - $300,000 for a third graphic recorder; and, 1994 - $300,000 for additional design stations and 1 GS-09 position; and, 1995/1996 - $125,000 to support an additional GS-09 position. The 4 positions indicated are GS-09 computer graphics technicians whose function will be to generate the finished artwork designed by the senior artists. (Currently our senior art designers are both designing and producing the finished artwork.) Of the 4 positions, 2 are new and 2 will be provided by a readjustment of Photography Branch resources. These additional positions represent a 45% Declassified and Approved For Release 2013/04/26: CIA-RDP91-00981 R000200270014-0 Declassified and Approved For Release 2013/04/26: CIA-RDP91-00981 R000200270014-0 increase in staffing over the current level. Coordination: Not required. Space Impact: No impact on the total space assigned to these two production areas is anticipated. Rather, this initiative is intended to maximize the use of that space.
