MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Information Technology

SUBJECT: Dicomed GSX Graphics File Server
1. As I am sure you are aware, the Office of Logistics,
Printing and Photography Division (OL/P&PD) has embarked on a
project to enhance their computer graphics production capabilities
by contracting with Dicomed Corporation to install the GSX Color
Graphics File Server in P&PD's Computer Output Microfilm (COM)
Center located in GJ-4004 Hqs. This upgrade will involve the
installation of a Microvax II in GJ-4004 connected to the Office of
Information Technology's (OIT) VM System to allow for the online
transfer of graphic files created with ISSCO software to the
Microvax II.
2. OL/P&PD has benefitted greatly from the cooperation and
expertise exhibited by representatives of OIT during anning
stages of this contract. In particular, Of the
Management Information Systems Group has proven invaluable with his
knowledge of I ducts and various graphic file
formats, and of the Engineering Services Group has
provided guidance regarding various communications controllers and
protocols, and preferred interfaces consistent with current
architecture. Without . the. services.of..these individuals, the tasks
faced by P&PD in the contract with Dicomed would have been far more
formidable.
3. As actual installation and implementation of the GSX
S. we envision the need to again call on Messers
to draw on their knowledge. We do not foresee a
o involvement on their part, but ask that they be made
available to P&PD representatives to answer technical questions and
provide guidance to the contractor on an as required basis. While
no formal authorization has previously existed for the support
