+ HAITI COUP - In response to the 17 September coup in Haiti, the
FBIS Wire Services Staff contacted major Intelligence Community watch
offices to pass on "eyewitness" accounts relayed by phone from the FBIS
contract monitor in Port-au-Prince. The contract monitor subsequently
translated numerous items from Haitian radios concerning the coup which
were fed by telephone to Key West Bureau and then relayed to FBIS
Headquarters for dissemination. The White House Situation Room was among
