SUBJECT: Approval for Connection of Commercial PC and
Modem to Headquarters Secure Telephone System
REFERENCE: Your Memo (OSP-0135-88), dtd 30 Sep 88, Same Subject
Your request to connect a Tempest-approved IBM PC/AT and modem to the
.secure telephone line in your Xenon Program SCIF o pass data to
NSA is approved. You must ensure that your PC and modem are operated in a
secure, stand-alone mode, isolated from any other Agency. computer system. You
should also ensure that any demountable magnetic media you use in the PC is
handled so that.there is no chance of your passing unintended Agency data to
NSA. Please call OIT's Technical Security Staff on
an installation site survey.

SUBJECT: Approval for Connection of Commercial PC and Modem
to Headquarters Secure Telephone System (U)
1. Your approval is requested for the connection of an IBM AT personal
computer and a telephone modem to a secure phone line in Xenon Program's SCIF
facility in '(U)
2. The connection will be utilized to pass data collected from a
sensitive compartmented field installation to a SCIF in the National Security
Agency (NSA) by way of the NSA grey phone system. The TEMPEST version
computer, modem, and all required transfer software will be supplied by NSA.
