Request for Casualty Figures
The Directorate for Intelligence has not kept a list of
casualty figures for either the FDN or Nicaraguan military or
civilians. According to the FDN, the FDN forces have suffered 115
killed in action and have killed 1,500 Sandinista forces since
record keeping began in March 1982.
While we believe that the FDN have probably slightly
exaggerated the number of Sandinistas they have killed during the
past year, we believe that the.FDN-is killing 11-15 Sandinistas for
every FDN member killed (a ratio of 11/15-1). It should be
understood that this ratio is considered accurate for the period
November 1982-May 1983 - the period of heaviest fighting inside
Nicaragua.
