Annually, SIG(I) members get informed of NITs production and gaps, and get invited to provide new NITs for the next fiscal year. This note is to apprise you of events 2. The NIT process requires: Providing the DCI Collection Committees with NIT gap statements and getting their proposed actions. The gaps and proposed actions are then provided to SIG(I) members for discussion at -a meeting. Gathering statistics on the production of intelligence items in response to N ITs. members to assist them in developing NITs. Preparing a DDCI call to SIG(I) members asking their ideas for next year's NITs. An Intelligence Community 'View of the World" is provided to SIG(I) 3. Currently: The NIT gaps statements have been reviewed by the DCI Collection Committees and their comments were due in the IPC on the 10th of May. (The paper awaits Admiral Burkhalter's signature as of 13 May.) has completed his survey of intelligence production against FY 1985 N s. This and the collection responses to the NIT gaps are to be forwarded to the SIG(I) members shortly. The DDCI call for new NIT and transmittal of the world view has'ebeen issued (13 May 1985). The SIG(I) deals with these items in two meetings (spring and summer). At the first of these, they: review the NIT gaps and actions, review the production statistics, and discuss the DDCI's call for new NITs. Executive Secretary to the SIG(I), set aside 23 May 1986n the DDCI's calendar but reportedly has not informed SIG(I) principals of the meeting., The remaining paperwork to be transmitted to SIG I members for this meeting consists of collection committee responses to the NIT gaps and a paper on the production statistics. These should go out by 17 May, if there is to be a 23 May SIG(I) meeting. It will be close. We will get the production statistics report and the gaps action paper to you by Wednesday for your review. The second meeting (sometime in July) will be primarily for discussing and approving the new NITs.
