Heinz, USAF Director Intelli ence Communit Staff Dear Gen- ' 1einz: Every year the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) sponsors a conference to acquaint Department of Defense junior intelligence officers with the organization, activities, and perspectives of the U.S. Intelligence Community. Over the last 7 years these conferences have been highly successful. The measure of success which we were able to attain in last year's conference was directly related to the arrangements which you made in supporting the event. This year, your support would again be most beneficial in expanding the conferees' knowledge on the relationships and interface of Community components. I feel strongly that we must continue efforts of this nature to ensure that we groom our junior intelligence officers to meet the leadership challenges of the future. Accordingly, DIA is planning to host a Junior Intelligence Officers' Conference during November 1989 in Washington, D.C. The conference is for officers personally selected by their Service Intelligence Chiefs and the U&S Command J-2s. We again plan to organize the conference around a week-long series of seminars, briefings, and tours. It is our intent to provide the conferees an opportunity for dialogue with leaders of the Intelligence Community, and to meet national-level decisionmakers who use intelligence products. Therefore, I would like to extend another invitation for you to present personally to the conferees your views on your organization's unique intelligence mission and functions in the Community. Your personal experience and comments will prove invaluable in providing these young officers with a clear understanding of your office and its role in the DoD and national intelligence policy arena. Pending your approval, preliminary arrangements have been made with for such a session on Thursday, 30 November 1989 from 0915 to 0945 in room 3E267, DIA Director's Conference Room (Pentagon). We remain particularly grateful for your participation in the 1988 conference, which was a highlight of the conferees' week-long activities. My DIA point of contact is USAF, telephone 695-7671. Sincerely, 1 Enclosure HARRY E.
