HEAVY-LIFT VEHICLE COMPATIBILITY TESTING
TYURATAM SPACE LAUNCH SITE W, USSR
1. SIGNIFICANCE: COMPATIBILITY TESTING OF THE NEW HEAVY-LIFT
VEHICLE (HLV) IS CONTINUING AT LAUNCH SITE W. (SWN)
IMAGERY CONFIRMS THAT FOUR STRAP-ON 25X1
BOOSTERS ARE MOUNTED IN PAIRS ON THE CORE VEHICLE. UNLIKE THE
SOLID MOTOR BOOSTERS ON THE U.S. SPACE SHUTTLE WHICH ARE
MOUNTED DIRECTLY OPPOSITE EACH OTHER ON THE SIDES OF THE MAIN
FUEL TANK, THE BOOSTER PAIRS ON THE HLV AT TYURATAM ARE OFFSET
TO ONE SIDE OF THE CORE VEHICLE. (SWN)
