1. SIGNIFICANCE: AN UNIDENTIFIED AIR-TO-AIR MISSILE (AAM),
POSSIBLY THE ADVANCED MEDIUM RANGE AAM, IS AT THIS FACILITY.

2. REMARKS: AN UNIDENTIFIED AAM IS NEAR TWO FLANKER A HIGH
PERFORMANCE FIGHTERS. THIS AAM MAY BE THE ADVANCED MEDIUM
]RANGE AAM THAT IS CURRENTLY UNDER DEVELOPMENT WITH THE FLANKER

IT APPEARS TO HAVE THREE
SURFACES. TWO SETS OF CANARD FINS ARE NEAR THE NOSE, AND ONE
SET CF TRAPEZOIDAL WINGS ARE AT THE TAIL. THE UNIDENTIFIED
MISSILE IS APPROXIMATELY 25 METERS FROM THE NEAREST FLANKER A
AND HAS TWO SUPPORT VEHICLES AND ONE BUS NEARBY.
PREFLIGHT/POSTLFIGHT ACTIVITY INVOLVING BOTH OF THE FLANKER A
IS ALSO IN PROGRESS. (SWN)
AKHTUBINSK FLIGHT TEST CENTER, 2 NM NORTH OF AKHTUBINSK, SERVES
AS THE MAJOR SOVIET TEST CENTER SUPPORTING THE TESTING OF
AIRBORNE WEAPONS SYSTEMS AND THE INTEGRATION OF THESE SYSTEMS
WITH SPECIFIC AIRCRAFT. (SWN)
