have the following observations from recent check of station
and time announcements for moscow and bei~ing international services
monitored by Bangkok:
moscow did not announce a specific target country for its Burmese,
loo, Indonesian, thai and hindi casts. all the aforementioned,
however, did provide in their opening announcements broadcast
times ire local terms for the countries fbis identifies as the
target. the closing announcement for the Cambodian casts specifically
sta+.ed "we are concluding our daily program for listeners in
kampuchea. similarly, the closing announcement for the 1200 gmt
urdu cast stated "radio moscow's first urdu broadcast for Indian
listeners ends," and the opening announcement for the 1300 gmt
urdu cast stated "moscow radio's urdu broadcast for Pakistani
listeners begins." the bengali cast opening announcement stated
"we ~ar?e broadcasting a program for Bangladesh listeners."
all oaf these casts provide broadcast times in local target country
terms.
Concerning bei~ing's international services, no specific target
cour?~try, language or target country program time was given for the
thai and Indonesian broadcasts. the language, but no target or
target country program time, was given for the bengali, Burmese and
loo broadcasts. the language and a target-country program time,
but not specific target, were given for the malay. Cambodian,
hindi and urdu (giving local times for both India and Pakistan)
