Dear Matt,
As you recall, when you retired several years ago you signed a
contract with the Agency at one thousand dollars a year to serve in a
reserve standby capacity. The notion was that while your experience was
fresh you might be used in the event of a national emergency. I write to
advise you that owing to budgetary constraints the program is being
phased out and we will therefore not be able to renew your contract,
which expired on 20 September 1987. In so advising you I would like to
express our apppreciation for your willingness to serve in this capacity.
