Scheduling of Up-coming Satellite Missions
1. The United States Intelligence Board discussed this morning
the recommendation of the COMOR (the Navy and Army dissenting) that
the two ARGON shots scheduled for October be postponed and that in
their stead two CORONA missions be substituted.
2. General Cabell for CIA, the Air Force, the State Department,
and the Director of the Joint Staff (JCS) recommend that the CORONA
missions be substituted for the two ARGON missions scheduled for
October. The Army, the Navy, and General Erskine (DOD) recommended
that only one of the ARGON shots be postponed, its place being taken
by a CORONA shot.
25X1 D 3. The question was discussed whether more reconnaissance
capsules than now planned for the rest of calendar year 1961
25X1 D were available. It was stated by General Breitweiser that there were
Davailable but there were Oboosters available. He stated 25X1 D
that this could not be changed because of lead times involved. It was
the view of the USIB that if it were at all possible, more boosters
should be made available and that the schedule be accelerated to permit
the two ARGON shots during the remaining best light conditions in this
calendar year.
