TCS-181+-57, 5 August 1957 1957 1. It is recommended that approval of References A and B, involving the sanitization of Middle East photography, be formally approved. With verbal approval, part of the material was accomplished at HTAUTOMAT on an urgent basis. The type of sanitization was con- sistent with stated policy. 2. Part of the requests, namely the sanitization and utilization of selected vertical photographs, is consistent with previous approved requests (References C, D, E, F, G) for Middle East material and sanitization was accomplished in HTAUTOMAT in accordance with procedures described in Reference E and delivery made to Army. 25X1 D drawings utilizing collateral and CHESS material without attribution of source. Classification of the sanitized material is SECRET/NOFORN/ CONTINUED CONTROL. 6. Request is also made, in Reference A, para. 4, that, upon the initiation of actual operations in the areas involved, the Commanding General, U. S. Army, Europe, may automatically downgrade to "Confidential Modified Handling Authorized" the sanitized material listed in References A, B, and C. Such procedure would be consistent with similar materials for the area and approval is recommended in the event of emergency or wartime conditions involving U. S.
